HAIL, SUN AND SLIPPERY SLOPES.
13th April 2008.
Things started well until we saw the task for the day - clearing (more) Hawthorn from the slopes about half way down the walk.
With lots of enthusiasm we adopted the "We have a plan - start at the top and work your way down - it's easy" advice.
Whilst Matthew and Graham started on a bit already cleared, Jill and I battled halfway up a dense patch. (Ron and Trudie doing excellent work starting and stoking the fire.)

Clearing was going well until we realised we couldn't get down. We had to hack our way through the cut stuff just to get our sandwiches.
To make things even more treacherous we got hit by a huge hailstorm. The slopes became rivers of running mud.

The sun did come out however and shone strongly on the cleared areas.
This highlighted the huge numbers of Cowslips and Violets we had exposed that blossomed even as we watched.
Proof indeed that we were making a positive difference, even if we did all go home with wet bottoms.
