15th November 2009

Today was the first session where we were 6 again! (Actually there were 10 but more of that in a moment.)

Ron, Maudie, Mat and me have been down here twice this season, but today Trudi and Graham joined us - hoorah. It now feels like the season really has started.

Ron decided to get us clearing a load of stuff in the 2nd boggiest place at the walk (nothing new there then).

The Jubilee Walk Leire on 15th November 2009

I got to use my new chainsaw and before long we were the well oiled team again.

As for the 10 .. a wee ramble 1st ..

On Tuesday last (10th) we gave a talk (by kind invitation) to the Leire Council and a good number of Leire locals. We introduced ourselves and talked about our goals and plans for the walk.
We also asked for more help from the people who visit the walk. Stuff like creature spottings when we are not there and ideas for the walk and indeed this web site (any ideas and spottings, please submit them to me Mike).

The response was overwhelming. We got offers of help and leaflets and history (to everyone who offered stuff, please be patient, I will get back to you when I get back from me hols). Particularly nice was the offer from Paul and Sam to help us this Sunday. Sam, by the way, was the snitch who dobbed us into the police, but we dont hold that against her - in fact we were chuffed to bits to be called youths!

Anyway .. whilst we were busy working...

Working hard at the Jubilee Walk Leire on 15th November 2009

...Paul and Sam arrived with saw, loppers and a Fortnum and Mason hamper (thats 8 now - see where I am going) and their 2 lovely terriers, Ochre (a Crufts winner) and Reg (now we are 10).

It was a joy to see them and very soon they proved their worth by mucking in and working like demons. It made a massive difference and we ended up with the biggest clearence and bonfire yet. A huge THANK YOU to Paul and Sam (and Ochre and Reg - no pics of them yet, but next time?).

FUNGUS/Fungi

We spotted 3 fungi today. This adds to the Morel we saw on the 19th April 2009.
It has prompted us to start yet another sightings page for fungi (with pics) over at fungi sightings.

CHESTNUTS

Maudie picked up some chestnuts the other day and we brought our improvised chestnut roaster (a 2.99 wok from Woolies - remember them? - with holes drilled in it.)

We wrangled some ash from the fire and had some delicious roasted chestnuts - a very welcome end to a very satisfying day.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm - Chestnuts!

Enjoy the site, but more importantly come and enjoy the Jubilee Walk.
