Exciting extracts from 'A Brief History of Leire - Part II' by the Leire History Group.
17th January 2010.
Temp: 4°C
We have lots of pics for you this week, lots of ice and people not posing for the camera.
Firstly - A Happy New Year to all our faithful readers.
Remember the snow? - Well it all cleared yesterday after lots of heavy rain. So Ron decided it would be fine to resume work at the Walk - thanks Ron.
It was positively balmy at 4 degrees after the constant zero and below for the last fortnight.
Ice on the path.
When we got there all the cold air had of course fallen into the walk and the paths were pretty much solid ice.

A hole in me wellies.
The chain saw powered up first time and your humble author was probably the toastiest one there in his kapok safety gear - I'm not really that fat - honest! Except - I had a hole in me wellies that meant me right foot was washing in icy water all day. The chilblains are starting even as I write this (hey ho).

Caption competition anyone?.
I snapped this pic when nobody was looking (except Graham). They really are NOT posing for the camera. This is what we do when we rest for a cuppa and a fag.

Perhaps we should start a caption competition?
Badger fart or Maudie performing?
I only took this 4 hours ago and I still have no idea what was keeping Trudi and Ron so amused. Maybe it was Matt blaming the badgers. (See previous pic - I told you we need a caption competition!)

The reason why we are here..
BEFORE (taken at 11:30 today)

AFTER (taken at 2:30)

Ron has already planned what he wants to plant here. Come visit the walk, and come back here to see the fruits of our labours.
And finally the signature final shot of the day...

Notice a theme developing here? See the links to 13th Dec 2009, 31st Jan 2010.
As the sun came round to light up the Walk it managed to raise some steam (if you squint hard you can see it in the distance). It was very wet and muddy after we had crushed all the ice, but it isn't always like this. See what it looks like when we haven't had 2 weeks of snow and a day of heavy rain here.
Enjoy the site, but more importantly come and enjoy the Jubilee Walk.
